6-16-25 THOUGHTS
1Pet 5:8 Be of sober [spirit,] be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour. David seems overwhelmed by an arrogant ambushing world that shows no pity! We live in that same world don’t we? He then makes a most interesting point that we each need to learn. He seeks deliverance from “men of the world whose portion is in this life”. They have children and leave their inheritance to them. Life is good for them. It would be easy to say “why Lord?” We read Ps 73:12-13 “Behold, these are the wicked; And always at ease, they have increased in wealth. 13 Surely in vain I have kept my heart pure, and washed my hands in innocence;” Our faith must be stronger than this, and our hearts more discerning! Hear David’s words in verse 15... “As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.”
This is current learning for some of us.
Ps 17:8-15 Keep me as the apple of your eye; hide me in the shadow of your wings, 9 from the wicked who do me violence, my deadly enemies who surround me. 10 They close their hearts to pity; with their mouths they speak arrogantly. 11 They have now surrounded our steps; they set their eyes to cast us to the ground. 12 He is like a lion eager to tear, as a young lion lurking in ambush. 13 Arise, O LORD! Confront him, subdue him! Deliver my soul from the wicked by your sword, 14 from men by your hand, O LORD, from men of the world whose portion is in this life. You fill their womb with treasure; they are satisfied with children, and they leave their abundance to their infants. 15 As for me, I shall behold your face in righteousness; when I awake, I shall be satisfied with your likeness.
A Prayer:
Father, keep us and hide us in Your presence. Teach us contentment and proper perspective as we view the unfairness in this world. Help our eyes to see beyond the physical and the present. Help us to never be jealous when the wicked prevail. Settle our hearts on You, the only true and living God. Eternity and all that is in it, is in Your hands. When we awake in Your promised eternity, may we be satisfied with Your likeness. Help us to know presently, that nothing else matters. In our Savior’s name, Amen.
